Questions we hear

Do you take my insurance?

It depends on your plan. We bill dental plans for the procedures they cover, and a medical plan when the visit is medical. Call us with your plan's name and we will tell you plainly whether we send the claim. The table on the home page and the fees page explain the difference.

What if I don't have insurance?

You get a written estimate before any treatment, with each step and its fee. You decide after you have read it. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.

Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?

Ask us when you call and we will answer plainly. What Medicaid pays for in oral surgery varies by plan, so it also helps to ask your plan.

Will it hurt?

Most people feel pressure and soreness afterward. We numb the area first, you can ask for a break at any point, and sedation is a choice we talk through before the day.

Do I need a referral?

Many patients are sent by their dentist, and your dentist can send us your X-rays. You can also call us yourself. Some plans want a referral note from your dentist; your plan can tell you.

Who gives the sedation, and how am I watched?

Dr. Applewhite gives it. A trained assistant watches your breathing, heart rate and oxygen from start to finish. A responsible adult drives you home and stays with you.

Can I get a written estimate before treatment?

Yes. You can ask for one at any time, and we give one to everyone paying without insurance when they schedule.

What counts as an emergency?

Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now: call 911 or go to an emergency room. For a broken tooth or pain, call our office.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. For sedation you need a responsible adult with you. They can wait in the lobby.

Do you see children?

We see teens and adults. For a younger child, call us, and we will talk with you and your child's dentist about who should do the work.

What should I bring to the first visit?

A photo ID, your insurance cards, a list of your medicines and any X-rays. Fill in your history on our private patient portal.

How do I change or cancel a visit?

Call the front desk. For a surgery day, tell us as early as you can so we can offer the time to someone else.

Not here? Ask us.

Call the front desk, or send a request and we will call you back.
